One Step Closer.....

We are one step closer to moving to the Farm.
Entergy got our power put in and we have now signed a contract on our existing home. We are suppose to be out by June 26th.  It happened so very quickly....like 3 days after we listed it!!! Thank you to our realtor Dawn Bailey for all your help!! We are packing packing packing!!!!!
We have so many wonderful friends and memories from Parkwood II... it will be sad to leave everyone, but exciting for the next chapter in life.

Our plan is to move in with my mom while we are building our barn. She will probably start drinking beer with Brent in the evenings just to deal with all of us!! HA

The kids are pumped about living with their "MiMi".  We will literally just take our summer clothes and a few toys and our freezers full of deer meat and beef. Priorities! ha  The rest will go into storage.

So back to the barn.... We have hired Deryle Shipman with Shipman Building Services to build our metal barn. Here he is with his awesome daughter Sam. She is the project manager on our job. I love seeing a Dad and Daughter getting to work together- brings back great memories.

Our plan right now is to live in the barn for a year or two and then finally build our "forever" home. After living through Corona Quarantine, I have the overwhelming desire to live VERY simply. Who knows- maybe we will live there even longer- we may enjoy Barn life?

Do you guys feel like that?
The need to simplify??

I don't want all the excess. And I just want us to be as sustainable as possible.
Our little design will only have one bathroom with the washer and dryer in it and the older kids will share a room. Leighton gets a closet for her crib. In our head, They are the perfect young age for this to work.

I want to make this place as basic as possible and just encourage our kids to run and play outside. Maybe I will start wearing long skirts and force the kids to call me "Ma"....... I'm kidding...kindof

Let's just live off eggs and cucumbers for the rest of the summer!!!  (Lord knows I need to after the Covid-19 weight gain!!)

We are working on getting the "Cluck Wagon" made to hold all of our chickens. I think we are at 74 right now, but I'd love to have like 174
Brent bought this trailer locally to convert into a mobile chicken coop aka The Cluck Wagon. It most definitely has some stories to tell...  I noticed it had quite a few bullet holes sprinkled across the front of it! I can't wait to paint it all up... I'm picturing an old wild wild west scene...to be continued on that.

We are still putting out seed to hold our soil in place and promote good soil health.

I truly can't wait to get out there and just Live On the Land.

Hoping it will work out to get our pond and interior fencing up this Fall too. I got plans for a nice sized orchard too. We may be living in the barn for a very long time to help pay for all of these big plans!!!  An older man friend told me that I have 16 good years left out of Brent (hahaha!) so we better get on it!!! The clock is ticking.....

My Mom is raising kittens for us to make into Farm cats. They were born inside her SUV so we think they will all have car related names.
Mercedes? Yukon? Punch Bug? Any suggestions?

And we buried my precious Leroy out on the farm property too. This place is truly becoming so very special to us.

I keep reminding myself that nothing happens overnight..... Patience Middle aged grasshopper!!
