The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

The Good:...Some of our pumpkins are already turning orange!!

Pumpkin pie in August anyone??? hahaha  The little seed packet had said they would take 120 days to be ready, but it seems to be moving a lot faster than that. I think it is a positive that they are growing so well though.

The kids have been working hard in the patch which makes us proud.

Here they are moving our fake owl to a new spot (Thanks for this tip Monica Turner!!!)

In my dream world, we are Little House on the Prairie with modern amenities :) Phoebe is a young Laura Ingalls and P is a young Charles working hard to make a living (to buy more Ring Pops!!) Also- another good...we apparently have an owl that is hanging out above the patch late at night in our dead gum tree.

Can you see that black mass at the top of the tree?? Sorry that the photos look like some grainy Budget D film.  That is him at 5:30 in the morning last week.
Brent thinks he has been "talking" to our fake owl!! Hopefully he is keeping down the rodent population.

The Bad: (if you are an animal lover...) Penny killed ANOTHER rabbit.

She actually looks like she feels bad about it in this photo.

I didn't post about this one on Facebook, because I know how much it upsets people out there. She and LeRoy have now killed 3 of them that we know of, and then I accidentally ran over one in my car the other day. I felt terrible. So now we are up to 4!!!  Stay away from The Compton's little fellas-your odds are not good!!!

The Ugly: Some of the areas have gotten real yellow.
Luckily, Kerry Heafner came out from the LSU AgCenter and looked around and told us what we needed to buy to get that under control.

Our weeds are crazy out-of-control too! We have A.L.O.T of pulling to do. Next year, we will be better prepared for them. Thank you Kerry for taking the time to come look! He actually said we were doing a good job :)

Our plan, as long as we have some pumpkins make it closer to Fall, is to sell them at the Farmer's Market. We want to load up the kids and have them help sell them so they get the big idea of how this all works from seed to customer. We are also working on a funny Mr P's Pumpkin Patch Shirt featuring all the critters we have encountered along the wall. We will take those limited edition tees to the Farmers Market too.

Thanks for all the interest in our pumpkin adventure!!!

To Be Continued...
